Two evenings of enchanting music at the Esplanade Concourse, brought to you by NUSCO. Four chances for my music to be showcased to the public, and not just in any place but the Esplanade. Once again my music is allowed to take flight and for this I must thank the cast of this production:
Gao Hu : Dai Da
Er Hu I : Dai Da, Hao Tze
Er Hu II : Huiling
Zhong Hu : Kevin
Cello : Jia Hui, Yanhong
Bass : Christine, Andrew
Dizi : Jieying
Thank you all for helping my music take flight. The past two nights have been a memorable experience, not to mention the numerous practices we had prior to this performance. I am happy that the premiere of "Edelweiss", "Zhai Xing", "Por una Cabeza", "A Song for Two", "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "An Jing" has been a wonderful success.
But sadly, PPD kicks in again as time pushes history further and further into the past. At the end of the day, there remains no one to turn to in the silence after all the notes have faded away. Memory fades like the mist and as the concert hall lights dim the stage is cleared and the instruments packed away. The players leave and all that's left is the empty stage, bare and silent. It is like a game of chess; after the checkmate the board is cleared and the chesspieces kept away, not knowing when or where will they be taken out again for another game or two. It may be days, months, years; or sometimes they may never see the light of day ever again. The world moves on and in time things become forgotten, unwanted, unnoticed, unknown.
Why does it have to be that way? No matter how passionate a performance at the end of it all everything just gets packed away leaving nothing but shards of intangible memories. Why does the stage have to be so bare, so silent at the end of it all?
Faith, take my hand please. Show me that beyond it all there is continuity between the fragmented shards of my life. Help me make my music of the night.
