Silent Night, Empty Night

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on
Our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on
Our troubles will be miles away

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years
We all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star
Upon the highest bough
And have yourself
A merry little Christmas right now

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on
Our troubles will be miles away

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years
We all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star
Upon the highest bough
And have yourself
A merry little Christmas now

I miss the jazz version of this that was played at NUSCO, a soulful rendition that etched the heart like a solitary candle flickering in the darkness. Emotions beyond words fill my heart, feelings even music cannot fully encompass. Looking up at the Night-covered sky, I pray for peace, for hope, for salvation.

I need a sign, a direction.

Silent is the Night, a night not unlike other nights of past. Someday maybe the rain will stop, but for the moment there is only now. Come what may, the future lies too far ahead; there's only the immediate and everlasting now.

Christmas approaches, and so yet another day goes by so that another will take its place.

"Only you can make my song take flight..."
