June 12 - TLHY

Two years ago on this very day, HCCO held its 'last concert' as HCCO (the name as well as that symbolic 5 arrows embelm were forever lost in history after HCJC merged with TCHS to form HCI). Although the CO still exists, the name HCCO cannot be used anymore officially since it is now under HCI and thus has to be called HCI(CD)CO.

And so it was that HCCO went out with a bang: the concert was aptly titled "Tian Lai Hui Yin" with a memorably unique poster design in lovely hues of sky blue and white. The theme was generally SYF competition pieces HCCO had played in the past, in other words a tribute to the glory of days past, but more importantly the selection of pieces was not only for the sake of a theme but such that the players themselves would have fun playing the songs. For once, this was a concert that was designed not for the purpose of entertaining the audience (although ultimately we did accomplish this goal as well), not for the sake of having a nice and consistent concert theme overall, but for the performers of the concert. It was great to be in a concert that focused on the performers' ideals rather than the usual planning based on ticket sales or theme consistency.

TLHY is over, and there can not - nor should there be - a TLHY II. Although a sad point in history then, there should not be any sad feelings about this, nor should this day be treated like some memorial day or death anniversary. HCCO still exists and remains strong to this day, just that it no longer has the honor to use HCCO as its name anymore.

Just remember that on this day 2 years ago, there was this concert at a turning point in HCCO's history, and this concert was the greatest and most memorable one for HCCO at that time.

A concert, like its name suggests, that still echoes strongly even after so much time has passed.
